Aucnet, AISIDI and Blancco Technology Group Form Strategic Alliance to Create Efficient and Secure Used Mobile Device Buyback Program in China

March 30, 2017, Beijing, China – In 2016, a total of 559.7 million mobile phones were shipped in China, up 8 percent from the previous year, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT). With 54 percent of Chinese consumers planning to buy a smartphone this year, mobile network operators and resellers are looking to improve the operational capabilities and efficiencies of mobile trade-in and buyback programs, while also ensuring that data is permanently erased before used devices are resold.

Information distribution service provider Aucnet Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-Ku, Tokyo, President & CEO Kiyotaka Fujisaki, hereinafter “Aucnet”) issued a joint press release today at Beijing’s Shangri-La’s China World Hotel to announce their strategic alliance with Shenzen Stock Exchange-listed major smartphone handset distributor, Shenzen Aisidi Company (Headquarters: Shenzen, China, Chairman Huang Wenhui, hereinafter “aisidi”) and London AIM Stock Exchange-listed global leader in mobile device diagnostics and secure data erasure products Blancco Technology Group (Headquarters: Georgia, USA, CEO Patrick Clawson, hereinafter “BTG”) in opening a used smartphone trade-in distribution business for the domestic Chinese market.

  • Compared to other countries, data privacy is not as well known or understood in China. This requires businesses to increase their investments in education and training, technologies and processes to properly manage and protect data across its lifecycle.
  • Meanwhile, mobile apps and mobile commerce are growing at staggering rates in China, fueled by digitally savvy consumers with one or more smartphones.
  • Although second-hand goods, including phones, haven’t always been considered desirable in China, attitudes are now changing. As a result, there is an increase in trust and acceptance of used smartphones, as long as the used devices are in good condition, perform well and do not put the data privacy of previous owners at risk.

Through this strategic alliance, the three companies will open the consumer-oriented brand “CooDoo” with the intention of leveraging the individual strengths of each company to offer a safe and trustworthy used handset distribution service during the trade-in process.

Aisidi As a strategic partner with China’s three leading carriers (China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom), AISIDI has a sales distribution network of over 20,000 stores throughout China. The company enjoys consumer brand awareness as a comprehensive service company in the field of digital product sales and communications.
Blancco Technology Group As the de facto standard in data erasure and mobile device diagnostics, the company works with some of the world’s leading enterprises, mobile network operators, device manufacturers and government agencies. It maintains the highest number of certifications and approvals from government agencies, legal authorities and independent testing laboratories.
Aucnet Aucnet has over 10 years of experience and knowhow in the B2B auction distribution of used digital products, with a global network of high-quality buyers.

Additionally, electronics have always produced waste in the environment. In fact, the amount of global e-waste — discarded electrical and electronic equipment — reached 41.8 million tonnes in 2014, according to a United Nations University report. This is exacerbated by the quantity and speed with which used devices have been discarded in recent years. Therefore, the three companies (Aucnet, AISIDI and Blancco Technology Group) are committed to tackling this problem of global electronic waste through their alliance.

As one of the first companies in the B2B used smartphone market, Aucnet has used a process of thorough inspection and data erasure to provide safe and reliable used devices since 2005. In particular, the market for used smartphones has seen significant growth in recent years. Starting with Japan and China, Aucnet’s goal is to expand into the broader APAC market.
